Easter Ideas for Adults

April 24, 2014 By Katie

Easter 2014 – My sister Connie did a group text the night before Easter saying, “So I have decided the adults will have an easter egg hunt also, if you have anything to throw in the hunt that would be awesome! Hey I wanna be a kid too!” Word for word this is what she text to me, my sisters, and our mother! I myself was so excited but had absolutely no time to run to the store and grab stuff so she set it all up and my mom pitched in a few items making it one of the most fun Easters I’ve had in YEARS! I know I have children and I shouldn’t say that but really when you have kids it’s more stressful thinking “are we going to have enough money…what am I going to do for dinner…I HAVE to clean, like NOW” etc. I am the busiest a week before any holiday and it gets stressful. So I was all in!

When the time came, we all had a grocery bag ready for the go-ahead to run and hunt for things like animal printed eggs filled with 1’s & 5’s and she bought those freezable cocktails in a pouch (which was a wonderful treat during the following week when I was really needing it) she also bought $5 dollar gift cards for Walmart. And lastly my mother brought items she had won from a grab bag at an adult toy party; stuff like…lubes, adult toys etc. Nothing like dildos flying up in the air on Easter Sunday 😉 hahaha but honestly there was none of that going on; just accessories for adult play. After all we had to keep it somewhat kid friendly as our kids were in the “bleachers” rooting us on!

Overall it was a blast and we’ve all decided this is going to be an annual thing for us adults because we all absolutely deserve it!

Again, as every post I do, I hope this inspires everyone to have a little fun when it’s due. The pic is what I won. PS: Please use caution when looking as it is rated R.

Celebrating Earth Day?

April 22, 2014 By Katie

This morning I was awaken an hour earlier then I am used to with three very excited kids! They overheard on Nick Jr. that it was EARTH DAY!

So naturally they asked what we were going to do today. I was half asleep and decided my best bet was…yep, Pinterest.  It took me all of 30 seconds to find something I had the tools for to create an Earth Day project.  One of the many reasons I am eternally grateful for Pinterest and its users!

I have attempted to do this project and take pics with some very simple steps so that you can enjoy this project today as we did!  Keeping in mind this can be done any day of the week and not just for Earth Day!

Earth Day

Can I just say I was so worried about the mess this was going to make as I was trying to rush to get this live?  I quickly realized none of that mattered because we had a blast doing this and it took me 5 min to sweep and wash hands! #Supermom

The pics are pretty self explanatory but Ill break it down anyway! Thanks to Dora, I don’t have to rush today!

First, the picture I used from Pinterest as inspiration for this project had toilet paper rolls but last minute I could only come up with one. If you and your kids or just you want to wait and collect be my guest, but I had some leftover paper cups from our annual Easter Party (blogging about that tomorrow) that we used instead.  In my opinion these were easier to work with.  They were able to put their hands in the cup when we spread the peanut butter.

Second, we took our pipe cleaners poked holes in our cups on opposite sides attached them and when all done they looked like little baskets.

Third, we spread the peanut butter evenly all over the cups. We started of by using plastic spoons and eventually used our fingers!!

Fourth step we rolled the peanut butter covered cups in our wild bird feed we had left over from a birdhouse project (you can find that project if you follow me on Instagram).

Lastly, we hung outside for our birds to enjoy!

Side note: I explained to my children during this project the importance of keeping our Earth clean and loving our animals. We shared our favorite things on our planet. I said I love the trees and flowers.  Emerson’s favorite are animals.  Reece’s favorites are water and sand.  And Ryland’s favorites are bugs and Dinos (I had to break his heart and tell him they no longer exist).  I really hope this inspires you to sit down take a few min to teach your children the same!

Bento

November 3, 2013 By Katie

Bento? How do you even pronounce that? Hell I don’t know but the idea is not only creative but amazing if you have picky little eaters like myself.

Bento is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice, fish or meat, with pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.

I was doing my usual “easy cheap dinner” search for my Sunday grocery shopping trip and came across this “Bento lunch ideas for kids”, with an American adaptation of the idea. It’s adorable some of the things these parents do. Some of which seem very time consuming nonetheless. And of course I like to think my ideas make EVERYONE’S life a little easier…I try anyway!

So I grabbed a few items I saw that I knew my kids would eat: mini marshmallows, cheese cubes, cheese crackers & bread for PBJ’s that I can cut into fun shapes like stars or pumpkins (tis the season)! I kept seeing gals using those silicon cupcake holders and placing them in rubber made containers…also a cute idea but I liked the cupcake tin idea better! These babies cost $1.97 each (@ Walmart). I “personalized” them with some puff paint and I am going to try the Bento lunch tomorrow. I think I’ll do some turkey hot dogs, ketchup, cubed cheese, mini marshmallows, a fruit & cheese crackers (6 cups to fill)! It seems like a lot but giving them options I think will help get them to EAT. Think about how small of portions the cupcake tins hold too…if that helps!

I’m all for a new way to get my kids to eat & I think this will be a hit!
