I Got the Boot

October 14, 2013 By Katie

This evening upon returning home from a bittersweet drop off…I was approached by my wonderful husband in our bedroom with a gift card to Starbucks, my laptop and an order, “Get out and go write a blog. Now!” My first thought was, “but I will not get to tuck my babies in; they will be in bed by the time I get  back.” But I knew he put a lot of thought into this and I knew I had to hurry out the door. That being said, I thought I’d share a few things today and promise I will be doing this more often! I have so many projects to share that I just never had the time to write about and share.

First, I have a couple of self-explanatory pictures to share. This was our big Fourth of July project this year…

Patriotic shorts: this was so fun and literally took me 10 min. I already had the cut offs & brushes – just went and got the puff fabric paint!

Second project is a picture of a shirt we made for all of us. Its just a hand print and some stripes I made with my finger.

The third project is an idea I came up with just being on a secret coupon Facebook page! One of my very best friends is getting married soon and, of course, on a budget. Since I am her Maid of Honor I too am doing a lot of work to help think of ways to save, save, save. So I came across a post that Target had a great deal on photo prints, which combined with a money-saving coupon, we ended up getting 200 prints free and came up with 200 really cool Save the Dates for $0!!! Finding a good deal like this can save anyone in a pinch ie; Announcements, save the dates, Christmas cards, and even invitations.

Save the Date

I think its time to wrap this up for today’s blog as Starbucks will be closing very soon and I can’t lie – I am ready to be home so I can cuddle with my amazing man!

I hope to be doing this every other week or so – so come back!!

Fun with old T-shirts

March 20, 2013 By Katie

Do you have old T-shirts you still like but don’t wear? If so you’ll want to read this.

Once again, I was on Pinterest pinning stuff I’ll never be able to do in the DIY/craft section & came across this really easy T-shirt tutorial. It was super simple & had the instruction without having to click on the pic…those are the best in my opinion!

First, I had to go and pull some old T-shirts out of my closet.  I chose my Target brand (Mossimo) in the end. I tried it on a blank white 100% cotton T  that did not turn out cool at all. After I washed it you could barely tell what it was. So, If you have any Mossimo brand T’s those are the best to use. If you do not, go grab a couple. It’s worth it & they are only 8 bucks.

Ok, first I used a black V neck T.  I just used a piece of white chalk and free handed some wings then I used my hair cutting scissors to cute them out. I tried using some small sewing scissors but it was taking forever! After I drew some wings and cut them out I washed the T & it was ready to wear. On a side note, the gal that originally did this tutorial said she sewed the edges of the holes she cut but I didn’t do that because I liked the raw homemade look.

I’ve made two so far. The grey one was a little more tricky- yet just as easy. The mouth was the trickiest. I had to practice on some scrap fabric to make sure I did it right on the shirt. I will be doing a white shirt with a dream catcher on a video tutorial for next weeks blog! So please come back and watch how easy, fun and also rewarding this project is!

I cant wait until I can throw on a bathing suit and use them as a cover up. It would also be fun to wear with a really cute lace bandeau! Hope you find this as easy as I did. Don’t for get to come back for the video tutorial!!

December 13, 2012 By Katie

Pinterest-my new found love! I have 101 things pinned that I MUST do before I die…I just never have the time or money to get the tools needed to accomplish these fun DIY projects :) I found a fun new project that was doable, so I thought I’d share!

It’s called the Bored Jar. If you have a jar, scissors, paper, great ideas, a pen and some REALLY bored children, you’re in business.

Here is a list of SOME of the things I put into our jar:
1. Treasure Hunt (my boys LOVED this)
2. Make sock puppets & put on a play for Mommy and Daddy!
3. Take silly pictures with Daddy
4. Take silly pictures with Mommy
5. Watch a movie (one for each kid to pick & Mommy & Daddy)
6. Read a book (Pickers choice)
7. Vacuum upstairs
8. Have a bubble bath
9. Make some cookies
10. Clean windows in two rooms
11. Flash light hide-and-go-seek
12. Clean litter box & make a dollar (big kids)
13. Make a house with legos
14. Make birthday cards
15. Clean kitchen cabinets (my favorite)
16. Build a fort & tell stories for (40 min, set timer)
17. Bake a cake to give to a friend and deliver
18. Make art out of pasta only
19. Make pom-poms (out of scrap ribbon)
20. Paint a picture
21. Write a list of 10 things around the house that start with the letter B
22. Turn on the music & dance for 20 min (kids bop station on Pandora)
23. Write Daddy a letter
24. Write Mommy a letter
25. Write grandparents a letter and send
26. Play spoons (card game)
27. Make a sculpture out of pipe cleaners
28. Play “I spy”
29. Go to the dollar store
30. Have a fashion show

It was a big hit when I had all six of my little ones and it was cold and rainy out!  They made a silly video for my sister who lives in Iowa- she LOVED receiving a silly video of the kiddos :) and that made me happy. I hope you enjoys this SUPER EASY project as much as me and my children did.
