Mother of the Year Award..

April 19, 2012 By Katie

Look Kathie Lee & Hoda, I’m not going to brag but I think what I do MOST people wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole.

I am a mother to six children, and up until 2 months ago I had the help of my wonderful husband everyday. That being said, I have acquired 3 little handfuls when my husband finally found THE perfect job.

I'm needing my Kathie Lee & Hoda right about nowMy entire day is consumed of children, cleaning, feeding, changing diapers, bathing, potty training, homework and the list goes on..

I stay at home with the three littlest ones. Ages being 3 and 1 year old twins! I have to say when I first found out I was having twins it didn’t really hit me until they hit 1. I can barely recall the beginning. It’s like a blur. I can remember having no sleep and barley being able to eat, also my husband and I fighting over whose turn it was to make bottles. Although those days were rough, I love my baby bugga-bugga’s. (Nicknames for the twins me and Emerson made up while watching Dora.)

My 3 year old daughter Emerson Rose is perfect. She is a good big sister and keeps me on my toes. She tells me every morning I look so beautiful. When I know I’m looking a hot mess. Yet it still makes my heart melt, almost like I halfway believed her.

As I’m sure there are a lot of deserving mothers out there I believe you shouldn’t judge before you spend a day with me and my crew.

Note: It took me 3 hours to write this entire post…phew

Bringing Home the Beach

April 16, 2012 By Katie

Enough about my children, let me show you a very cool idea I came up with upon going to Edisto Island, South Carolina in the summer of 2011. I have to say while my trip to South Carolina was exhausting to say the least, it was inspiring as well.

I absolutely fell in love with all the décor that surrounded me. I have a knack for seeing really expensive things in stores and turning them into inexpensive things with sometimes just the stuff lying around my house. This is an example of what I mean:

All it took was collecting a few handfuls of sand from the beach, buying a sand dollar from one of those seaside shops, and then found a vase at home and put it all together. Inexpensive, easy and a great way to add some beach vibes to my Indiana kitchen…

Now if I could just find a way to shrink down and fit inside this vase, I’d be right back at the beach!

Happy Birthday Son!

April 13, 2012 By Katie

Today marks the 10th year my first son was born. What a joyful day that was. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was so young and about to have a son. I wasn’t prepared to be a mother I thought. Until I saw him for the first time. Then I knew: I can do this.

It was 10:00 in the morning; Gavin’s father and I were headed out the door to go to his Grandmother’s birthday party. I felt so much pain and pressure but still tried to go on with the day to help celebrate. On our way to Gavin’s grandma’s house, I felt the sudden urge to pee. “Oh crap” I thought. I really had to go.

Finally arriving, I ran past everyone to get to the bathroom. Ten minuets later I walked out to say to Gavin’s father, “Its time”. In a panic we all got in our vehicles and headed to the hospital. From the time we arrived it was 4 hours later we had our son. Every fear I had before was gone in an instant. Not only did my body feel relieved but so did my heart. He was healthy, happy, hairy and quite handsome. I loved him the very second I laid eyes on him.

It has been a very long 10 years for Gavin. He is such an old soul, and I don’t know what I would do without him. He has struggled and strived through many things already; from being diagnosed with severe ADHD, to watching me have 5 more children. I can say this: Gavin is an awesome big brother; anytime help is needed he is my guy. I couldn’t have asked for a better son. I have his father to thank for that. So if you ever read this Michael Monroe; I thank you for your participation in helping me make the world’s awesomest person 😉

Gavin, I love you more than words could ever describe. Happy 10th birthday, son.
