What I Know About the Common Seadragon

April 11, 2012 By Katie

The following is an overview of the Common Seadragon and an explanation of why you need to know this.

Also known as The Weedy Seadragon-

Common SeadragonNot to confuse you, but there are two types of seadragons. The Common seadragon is a part of the Phyllopteryx taeniolatus family, the only one of its kind.   They are found in central New South Wales around the south coast of Australia to south-western Western Australia.

They can grow up to 45cm in length, which is equal  to 18in.  It is often confused with the leafy seadragon (which I did about 110 times). The difference between the two are one looks a lot leafier than the other. The less leafy one is The Common Seadragon.  When you Google The Common Seadragon they both show up. That later taught me to READ more carefully. I alone did an hours worth of research on the leafy seadragon only to find I was researching the wrong seadragon.

Here is why you need to know this.  The irony of all this knowledge is that I acquired it through my 10 year old son’s project. I found myself working on it with him one minute, then the next minute I could hear him upstairs making shooting noises with his mouth…playing X-box 360 while I was researching the information for HIS project. So I figured if I had to learn all of this – I should make you do the same!

Have you ever found yourself doing your child’s project coming out of it being a freaking expert? I have!

I got married…again!

April 10, 2012 By Katie

Mr & Mrs. Adam WhitakerSo I know what you’re thinking..’why would she write, again’?..Right?!

I like to think I am an all around honest person (although my ex would beg to differ) so when it comes down to it I have been married once before I got it right!

In 2005 I tied the knot with Mason and Isabellas father Ryan. All I can say is we were two very different people. We couldn’t agree on most everything so we thought it be best to part ways in 2009.

That’s the year I fell in love for the first time. I really never knew what love was until I met Adam Whitaker.

We have 3 beautiful kids out of my total of 6!!! We have Emerson-3, Reece-1 and Ryland-1.

We just said “I do” on March 30, 2012. Well after our children were born, after we moved into our beautiful home, etc. We really had no choice but to wait for that right moment.

My husband and I are like two rotten peas in a pod. We are alike in so many ways, we can make each other literally lol via email or thru text when its pure silence around the room (you’re welcome boo)! Yet we are different in ways that balance us out. I LOVE to hide in closets (even if its for a half hour) and jump out at him making him cringe in fear and then he hates me for an hour…when he likes to keep me up at night eating midnight snacks because he’s a night owl, making me hate him in the mornings!

You see I am probably the luckiest girl I know. My husband loves me so much it hurts and I know that. Just like he knows I love him to the moon and back a million times over.

So there you have it, I am on my second and FINAL marriage…

Katie’s Nail Tip 101

February 21, 2012 By Katie

Skip all the extra unnecessary steps in drying your nails.

Nail Tips 101Did you know most “fast drying” nail polishes can crack and split because of the formaldehyde and alcohol?  Well neither did I, until I was staying with my sister over the past summer and took advantage of her subscriptions for cosmopolitan magazine, and read an interesting article on a salon owner who has had an awesome experience with….ICE?  Yes that’s right ice, as in ice cubes.

My first thought was burrr.  But then I sat and thought, if I am going to be a salon owner myself one day, I had better put my own twist on it.  So of course, I tried it out.  I  grabbed a bowl, put some ice and cold water in it and started painting.  The verdict:  Lets just say great idea but it was WAY too cold.  Have your feet ever had a “headache” from stepping in cold water?  That is how my fingers felt.  I had to start thinking right away, “what can I do?”

So I took off the nail polish and started over.  This time I ran the cold water, filled up a really cute glass dish, and that is it.  I turned on my Pandora radio.  I painted my nails, set them inside the dish, and waited at least one really good song.  I took them out of the water, let the water dry instead of towel drying,  as I was a little skeptic of myself,  and did not want to smear my 2nd paint job.  “I HAD NAILED IT” is what I told myself after I touched my nail to my lip and it was DRY as a bone!!  So next time you are gong out and you need a quick fix.  Try my nail tip.  I would LOVE to hear your feedback.
