D.I.Y. Clawdeen Wolf Ears & Makeup!

October 30, 2013 By Katie

Same topic of my last post. Homemade is the only way around here!

These are Clawdeen Wolf ears. Clawdeen Wolf is a character from Monster High. I have three girls so I knew it was inevitable one or two would be into “gothic monsters” lol or whatever they are!

Again, (sorry if I’m repetitive) we were out shopping for costumes & found a Clawdeen Wolf costume at Walmart for $20. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they wanted $20 for a wig. She HAD to have the ears; it makes the costume! But I had a budget. So my trip to Michael’s for the Spartan Shield turned into a trip for the cheapest way to makes her ears. Easy, cheap & effective! Those are words I would use to describe my shopping trips…sometimes πŸ˜‰

The tutorial explains what I did to make the ears. I already had the needle & thread (didn’t care what color) & when I added the alligator clips (pack of 20 for $2.99 @ Michael’s craft store), it didn’t matter that the bottom was scrunched up because I am going to tease her hair to make them look real.

The second image shows I used my own makeup to finish the look! With a little black eyeliner, purple eyeshadow, red lipstick, bronzer (for the light skinned kids) & homemade ears we have a very cute Clawdeen Wolf for under 25 bucks!

PS: A tip for putting on the bronzer is apply some liquid foundation. Then, before it completely dries, heavily bronze the face all over, giving it that dark tint Clawdeen Wolf has!

Enjoy & have a safe and happy Halloween!

Homemade Spartan Shield

October 30, 2013 By Katie

I have another quick little tutorial for you today! I’m trying to get everything i do and put it into a photo collage so I can post more often :)

This is a shield I made last minute for my son, Gavin. He is going to be a Spartan! I seriously went to 10 different stores looking for a shield he liked and found one they wanted $20 for…I hate telling my kids that’s too expensive but having a large family & shopping for 8 costumes gets to be a bit overwhelming. So knowing my son, I knew he was going to be happy when I told him lets go pick up a few items and make one of our own for a third of the cost of this one! I LOVE to admit when I said “let’s make our own,” my son got so excited because he knew I rock at this kind of shit!

I got the gold spray paint for $3, the “lap desk” for $3 at Michael’s craft store and had the red paint already at home from a previous project! Any color would do but he wanted red. The pic really explains it all. I just spray painted both sides, let it dry, painted an upside down V with gold glitter paint, let dry again, then outlined the glitter with red. Mind you this is all fabric paint I had used for T-shirt projects over the summer!! Anything will do. After all is said and done, my husband says “all this money for a two hour event?” Yep. The things we do for our kids πŸ˜‰

I hope this helps & enjoy!

Milk Jug Jack-O-Lantern

October 22, 2013 By Katie

It’s a week before Halloween and nobody loves Halloween more than I do!!

This year has been a little rough on the pocketbook (saving up for our dream home) so I couldn’t decorate as large as I’d like to. I came across this cute tutorial on Pinterest (of course). I just saved up 10 milk jugs which is pretty easy to do in my house. Only took two weeks in fact! I drew a super silly face with black permanent marker, dropped a glow stick in the jug & “voila” here you have a cheap, easy lawn decoration for those cute little trick-or-treaters!!

Before

I also cut a small hole on the side of a couple jugs and put a strand of Halloween lights in the jug for some kitchen decor.

After

Enjoy!
