Turning Goodwill finds into Gold

May 16, 2012 By Katie

So as you all know I am in to Goodwill and chalkboard paint these days..lol

I have for you my newest favorite Goodwill find. I often like to go into Goodwill to grab T-shirts for myself and my son, and on this particular day I went in to grab some books. Instead, I came out with a chair and a picture frame.  If you look hard enough, it’s amazing the things you’ll find. I paid three bucks for this really cute chair and five for the frame. So eight dollars and some change later, I have an awesome piece on my front porch and a chalk board hanging in my kitchen!

First off I LOVE green. It has to be one of my all time favorite colors. So when I saw this chair from across the store I seriously saw myself running in slow motion to it. My husband will tell you, I stopped all traffic to quickly nab it! I even made him carry it around the store for me 😉

I didn’t have to do much to the chair. I literally painted the back support slats with the chalk board paint, let it dry and wrote “The Whitaker’s” on it. I put it on my front porch and put a plant on top and there you have it. I think it looks awesome. It would also make a great inexpensive gift..hmm!!

I’m keeping it short and sweet today..this Mommy is busy! Good day all..

Fun with chalk board paint

T.G.I.F!

Ugh, it’s hard to believe it has been a week since I have blogged…I have been super busy painting my house & getting it ready to have my June wedding reception!! I have my very good friend Kim to thank for her help. It was much appreciated.

So to make up for a week of not blogging, I have decided to give you four craft ideas that I did all in one day with Chalk Board Paint.

I first want to say, because this was so quick and easy, I found myself wanting to chalk board paint everything lol. Oh & believe you me, I would have  😉

So now you know why I have four crafts for you today!

My first craft was made keeping my children in mind to show them that every penny saved counts! You see, my family is very large and to be able to pick up and take off to the beach isn’t easy. It can get expensive so I feel this idea is not only cute but very educational. My husband and I have worked hard to get where we are today. Therefore, I want my children to know that earning your own money and saving it can be very rewarding.

Chalkboard Paint Projects

I simply used these items you see above: A Mason jar, a piece of chalk, some twine I found at Michael’s Craft store, a paint brush and chalk board paint (found at Wal-Mart for 9 bucks.) I painted two coats of paint onto a small area of the Mason jar and let it dry. Put in our “savings”. Tied some twine around the lid, came up with a cute name and wrote it in chalk. I mean come on, so super easy right?! I did put some sea shells on top for decoration as well..

Craft number two is an old picture I found at Goodwill. It was all of 5 dollars and all I had to do is wipe it down before I painted it, let it dry and found a cute saying on Pinterest.

Craft number three is a picture frame I had lying around the house with no picture in it. I found the stand at Michael’s craft store. I then painted over the the glass, (like I did the Goodwill picture), let it dry, and wrote yet another cute saying. I thought this one was fun for my beach themed kitchen.

So I got to work and made one for myself (of course), my friend Kim (to thank her for her help yesterday), my wonderful mother Linda, and my awesome sister Casie.

There you have it: Fun with chalkboard paint! I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did. As always, please share 😉

Fun Ways to Store Your Makeup!

May 2, 2012 By Katie

Good morning fellow bloggers and friends 😉

What a beautiful day it is outside here in good old Indiana..It’s about time we see that sun shining!

Since it was raining and gloomy out yesterday, I decided it was my day to clean bathrooms (yuk) and arrange my master bathroom and closet.

After being here for a year already, I still had yet to hang up all of my clothing and find a place to put my make-up, hair products, nail product etc. I have just been living out of my baskets. This is highly unlike me because I have what my husband calls, “design A.D.D.”  Not to mention it drives him crazy when the house is in disarray. He seriously has O.C.D. as to where I have I.G.D.E.D. (it’ll get done eventually disorder).

After all is said and done, I came up with this for my make-up. I found this giant martini glass at Goodwill for $2.99. I cleaned it up and have used it for various thing. (I have also seen this jar at Wal-Mart for ten bucks.) As you will start to see, I love using clear glass containers for everything. And as I have probably mentioned in an older post, I used to own and operate a candy buffet business, so when I was on the prowl for jars, I accumulated A LOT of containers. Some of which I can not seem to bring myself to get rid of. Why? Because I can use them for so many other cool projects! Like this one…Again, I have just taken something I had lying around the house and turned it into a really cool make-up holder.

This pic is of the top of the jar just giving you an idea of how much make-up can fit inside!

Peek-a-boo, yes that is me in the picture below posing with my iPhone. The hubby had to take my good camera to work today (ignore the incomplete paint job in the background:)
