Why You Should Save Your Wine Corks

April 30, 2012 By Katie

centerpieceI’ll tell you why; because you can do this really cool project. I have my Mother in-law to thank for them (thanks Keri)! She is an avid wine drinker and saved all of her corks for me to decorate with.

First, I found this huge wine glass at Michael’s craft store about a year ago for about 25 bucks. This jar has to be one of my favorites. You can do so much with it. I’ve used it for candy buffets and dips.

Second, if you are a wine-o, save your corks in a zip-lock bag until you have reached a desired amount. Or if you’re like me and have in-laws that LOVE their wine ask them to send them your way!

Lastly, I thought since I was putting this in my beach-themed kitchen, I had to find something to tie it all together.

So again my mother-in law being the coolest found this really cool metal starfish for me, that I used for this as well. I just love the color. It’s the color I’m using for my kitchen!

Put it all together and you get this really cool unique decoration using around the house stuff.  Combined with a previous craft idea, this makes for a great centerpiece.  This idea is to inspire you to find a cool jar and something cool to put in it, and see what you get. Use your imagination. I have gone to Goodwill and found some really pretty jars in great condition for just two bucks. Go to Michael’s and get some rocks & moss covered balls. The possibilities are endless and you don’t have to spend 100+ dollars decorating your home.

Enjoy & again as always please share…

Turning wine bottles into table decor

April 25, 2012 By Katie

Good day friends, I’m totally feeling it today. I am super excited with how things are going for me in life at the moment ;D I’m just all smiles! I got my social security card in the mail today making me officially Mrs. Katharine Whitaker..I have waited so long for this moment and it just gives me butterflies thinking my patience have finally paid off!

That being said, I have another really cool tutorial for you on yet another homemade decoration. This one being one of my favorite finds.

First, while in Edisto Island, South Carolina my mother in-law made a special visit to our beach house bringing us some wine! Yum. She said one of the reasons she bought it was because of the bottle, and I must agree, it is a rather unique bottle. That in mind, I drank up. Honestly I did not give the wine a great rating. The after taste didn’t rub me the right way. But I did enjoy having a glass or two or three maybe four on the back gazebo of this beautiful home.

After we returned home to Indiana, I pulled the empty bottle out of my suitcase and immediately started racking my brain on what to do with this cool bottle.

I right then and there decided I had to decorate my kitchen in seashells. I just had to “bring home the beach”!

After peeling off the label and putting a little goo-gone one it, I washed it out and let it dry, leaving me with this beautiful bottle.

I then started digging in my “junk container” (I save everything worth saving for ideas like this one). I found this really cool candle wine cork my ex mother in-law gave me YEARS ago, and put it on top. I have seen these corks online so they shouldn’t be hard to find.

After digging a little more I found this ribbon that was used to hold a bag together for decoration from one of those really cool seaside shops.

Final product sits on my kitchen table everyday!

Paired with tomorrows tutorial…

stay tuned :)
